About Me
Hello, and thanks for visiting my biography page. I'm a board-certified urologist and have been with the Urology Center since 2004. I was born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where I stayed for college. After graduation, I wanted to widen my experience, which led me to New York City to attend medical school at Columbia University. Having earned my medical degree, I traded the concrete jungle of Manhattan for the scenic appeal of the Bay area, and completed my surgical internship and urology residency in San Francisco at UCSF. I eventually settled down in southern California, where I live with my wonderful wife and two sons. I very much enjoy the practice of urology and feel that our group at UCOSC delivers state-of-the-art urologic care in a compassionate, caring environment.
About My Practice
My philosophy of the practice of medicine is to treat each patient with empathy, dignity, and respect. This involves listening first, which I have heard is a lost art in medicine. I strive to understand a patient's hopes, fears, and expectations before designing an individualized diagnostic and treatment plan. My patients take an active role in deciding among management options, as I strongly believe in a patient's autonomy and decision-making authority. Ultimately, my guiding principle is to treat each patient as I would want a member of my own family to be treated.
I see many types of patients, and have an interest in minimally invasive techniques for the management of both benign and malignant urologic conditions. To give back to the community, I also devote time to urological cancer support groups, and serve on several elected committees within our local hospitals.
